Biographies
SARAH MARKHAM
(Soprano Saxophone) studied Saxophone at the
Royal Northern College of Music, (RNCM) gaining her Degree
and Professional Performer's Diploma, and at the University
of Massachusetts, USA, with scholarships from the Countess
of Munster Musical Trust and the Sir James Caird Trust.
She has enjoyed Competition success with the Royal Over-Seas
League Music Competition and the Park Lane Group. Sarah
has performed around the UK, including the Queen Elizabeth
Hall and Purcell Room at London's South Bank Centre, and
at the Last Night of the Marble Hill Proms for English
Heritage. She has also performed in Germany, Belgium,
Spain and the USA, and has broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and
Classic Fm.
ANDREW WILSON
(Alto Saxophone) studied Saxophone and Clarinet
at the RNCM, where he gained a first Class Honours Degree
and a Professional Performer's Diploma. He has performed
many concertos (including a work for Alto Saxophone and
Recorder Orchestra written especially for him) and has
given numerous recitals throughout Britain. He teaches
Clarinet and Saxophone in the Manchester area, including
Chethams School of Music. As a freelance saxophonist and
clarinettist he has recorded numerous times for television
and radio, including many jingles for adverts. He has
worked extensively in Orchestras, including the Royal
Liverpool Philharmonic, Big Bands, and theatre. Andrew
enjoys composing and arranging and currently has eleven
books of his compositions in publication, including pieces
which have been selected for the Trinity College, Guildhall
Jazz and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of
Music examinations.
MARTIN KERRIGAN
(Tenor Saxophone) studied Saxophone at the RNCM,
where he gained his Degree and Professional Performer's
Diploma and now works as a freelance saxophonist and clarinettist.
He has played with numerous orchestras, including the
Halle Orchestra and for the Royal Exchange Theatre Company.
He has also played with the Squadronaires Orchestra of
Great Britain, the Memphis Belle Orchestra and is currently
a member of the Andy Prior Orchestra. He has recorded
many times for television and radio and backed artists
such as Bruce Forsythe, Joe Pasquale and Frankie Vaughan.
He teaches Saxophone and Clarinet at Withington Girls
School, Manchester and at The King's School, Macclesfield,
where he also conducts the Wind Orchestra.
ALEX MITCHELL
(Baritone Saxophone) was born in London in 1970,
but spent the first ten years of his life in Hong Kong.
He studied at the RNCM where he gained a Degree and a
Professional Performers Diploma. Has a freelance saxophonist
and teacher of flute, clarinet and saxophone, he has had
a varied playing career working first in the Manchester
area and now in London. He has worked with numerous theatres,
including the West End Royalty Theatre, Steven Joseph
Theatre and the Palladium Theatre Orchestra aboard the
P & 0 Liner " Acadia". He performs regularly
as a soloist in recitals and theatre projects and recorded
many times for radio. He now teaches at St Paul's Boys
School and Bute House Preparatory School for Girls in
London. Away from the Saxophone Alex is also an active
member of Richmond Canoe Club
