Educational Workshops The members of the Adelphi
Saxophone Quartet have a wealth of experience in teaching children to play musical
instruments. They offer programmes of educational workshops, composition technique
(GCSE/A Level) and a concert designed to appeal to children of all ages. EDUCATIONAL
WORKSHOP Younger Audience age range: 7-12
Programme duration: approx 50 mins Adapting their repertoire to suite
the target age group, during a workshop each member will demonstrate their instrument
explaining how the saxophone works and introducing the usual different types commonly
used. Each instrument is then played as a solo and then with an important role
within the ensemble so it can easily be identified. Examples of the pieces used
in this section are:
The Agincourt Song, Mission Impossible, The
Lincolnshire Poacher Gershwin's 3rd Prelude Grovlez's Petites Litanies
de Jesus. A popular section in the performance is introducing the instruments
within a Bach fugue where the audience are asked to participate with each new
entry of the tune played by different members of the saxophone family. The
quartet then demonstrate the way the a saxophone quartet play during concerts
and where most of the music comes from and by which composers. Showing
the saxophone's versatility, the group then take the audience on a travel around
the world playing traditional music from Scotland, Hungary, Russia, America
to name but a few or might take them on a journey through time demonstrating how
musical style has evolved. The workshop will usually finish with questions
from the audience and a final piece. Here are examples of other educational
type concert programmes:
